Archaeological Survey of Paleolithic Age in Aksaray Province
Numerous archaeological research works providing very important results have been carried out in Aksaray Province until now. The finds of these works have shed light onto the history of the town. There are three main specializations within Archaeology and the research works conducted up to now in Aksaray were related to the Classical Archaeology and Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology periods.
However our research is focused on the Palaeolithic Period, which is the period when people lived a nomadic lifestyle, there were no metalls discovered yet, the sedentary way of life was not started, and when there was no farming or domestication of animals. This period covers the earliest timespans in the history of humanity. Archaeological research is divided onto two parts, one of them is the surface surveying and the other one is excavations. The surface surveys are unavoidable in order to start excavation works and to put the archaeological patential of these works forward.
From this perspective within the framework of our Project we are planning to conduct archaeological surveying of finds belonging to the Palaeolithic Period in the defined study area within the Aksaray Province borders.
As a result of the surveys the archaeological research will be carried out for the first time in the Aksaray Province and the areas for future archaeological excavations will be defined with the new finds as well. We think that this Project will be important not only for Aksaray but also for the archaeological science.
